Busy

We've been busy with Milja and Dan these past couple of days.

We went to the Waterfront mall on Monday, and then to Simons Town to see the penguins. We took the scenic route, but as we were driving in a cloud, there was nothing to see. On the way back, we had a dinner in one of the restaurants at Nordhoek farm. The sun had set as we took the scenic route back to Hout Bay.

No worries, we can see Hout Bay by night, and it should look lovely with all the lights. Except the electricity was out again, and all the lights we could see were from some random cars coming down the hill from Cape Town.

Heikki had battery left on his laptop, and we watched half of Rear Window in candlelight (we were able to find one candle in the house).

We drove to Spier vineyard in Stellenbosh on Tuesday. It's about an hours drive to east from here. Milja and Dan went to pet a cheetah. We did some shopping and went to visit the University on the way back.

We were meant to take the dogs for a walk at the beach in the afternoon, but the wind picked up and as there was a lot of sand in the air we came straight back home.

Milja and Dan went to the pool and I made some pizza. We watched an episode of the Desperate Housewives (brilliant!) and the rest of the Rear Window.

Today, we took India to the creche and went to a huge bead shop in the centre of Cape Town. We spent two hours in the shop and just as we were walking to the tills the electricity went out once again. It's now been doing that about 2-3 times a day, and it's getting really frustrating! At least I've managed to buy more candles, so we don't need to sit in the dark.

Luckily, we were able to buy most of our shopping with cash. Milja and I made some necklaces on the Llandudno beach while Dan bravely swam in the cold water. We picked Matias up from school - he'd had a great time at camp with classes 5 and 6 - and picked up little India.

We went to walk on the dunes in the evening. Milja and Dan said they didn't really feel like walking, but when they saw the fantastic white sand, they ran up and down like gazelles! At the moment the dunes look like a ski-slope, and are quite magnificient.

A fire had just started above the squatter camp. We could hear the sirens, but it took quite a while for the two "fire engine" helicopters to come and put out the fire. They were busy carrying water from the bay for an hour or so. We drove down to the harbor to see the dipping of the bucket up close.

Hout Bay was out of electricity once again, so we tried to go and have dinner in Constantia, instead. No luck there, either. As we drove back home the lights came on, so got our pizzas, after all. India was in a bad mood. Looks like she's getting ill.

The electricity has now been on for several hours. It's bound to go off any minute, so I'd better post this entry now.
