Bush fire at Hour Bay

Last night a fire got loose at Hout Bay. The starting point was very close to shacks at the top and of Mandela Park. The wind was favourable and the people on the ground were able to prevent the fire from spreading down into the habited ares. Instead, it spread fast up the slope and south. See the two pictures taken with an eight minute interval. Afterwards it spread even faster, but the flames were covered by smoke.

We noticed the fire early on, but were still fumbling for the mobile when we heard the first sirens. After that, it took exactly 30 minutes for the the first helicopter to start water bombing the vegetation around the fire. They managed to prevent the fire from spreading to Baviaanskloof which has tall trees and lush vegetation. In an hour, the immediate danger was over.
