We drove about 10-15 minutes south from our house, to the Boyes drive that’s carved on the mountainside above Muizenberg. We parked the car by the side of the road and immediately saw whales.
The whales didn’t look that impressive, as we were quite high up and far from them, but it was an amazing feeling to see so many of them. We tried to count them, and decided there were at least 8. They kept disappearing under the surface, so we’re not absolutely sure of the numbers.
We continued driving south on the coastal road. We ate at the Tibetan teahouse and went to see the penguins at the penguin colony.
We continued further south, as Milja was keen to see some baboons. We drove all the way to Cape Point. We saw baboon families, but that’s not all. Heikki, India and I did a short walk on the beach amongst the baboons. Meanwhile, a man had showed Milja and Dan a Cape cobra he’d spotted on the rocks. Milja and Dan lead us to the cobra. We got quite close, as she was beneath us, curled up, getting some rays.
We continued the drive for a couple of hundred metres. The next animal we saw was a female ostrich. She was walking around on the beach near the Cape of Good Hope.
On the way home, we came across two different species of antelopes.
