Milja and Dan have arrived

Milja and Dan are here :)

We picked them up from the airport this morning, and drove to our new house. They liked the house, too, even though they'd had quite a bad picture of it in their mind. They were quite tired and hungry so we didn't spend too long at the house. Instead, we drove to our Tokai home, so the two could settle down.

After some unpacking, we popped over to the school. That trip was a bit of a waste of time, as we didn't get to see Milja's tutor, and India was so tired that she refused to go and sit in her car seat. It took us ages before we managed to persuade her in the car.

India wanted to go and swing in the swings, but we couldn't do that as it was raining and the swings were wet. African swings are made out of car tyres. The tyre hangs from ropes the same way it is in the car, not sideways like I've seen them in other countries. They cut away a part of the tyre so the kids can sit inside the tyre. It works really well, but if you don't make a hole in the bottom of the swing the seat gets really wet when it rains.

We went for a little drive (took Joyce home) and Milja got to try out my car. She got her licence a while ago.

Later on, Milja and I went for some shopping at the local mall, and then we all went to the school for an open evening. We went to buy Milja her school clothes, which was a disaster. The clothes are OK for Matias, as they are really his style. They are NOT the style of an 18 year old young woman.

India got to swing in the swings. It was dark, but at least the swings were dry.

We dropped Heikki and India off at 7:30 PM and drove straight down to the biggest shopping centre around, the Canal Walk. We spent a good hour looking for a decent cardigan Milja could wear tomorrow (own clothes are not really allowed at school, but desperate times, desperate measures, or something like that).

Before falling asleep Milja and I spent some time sitting on the floor, withe some needle and thread, making some modifications to her school shirt (not really allowed, but desperate times, you know).
