Snakes

Seija has flown off on one of her trips again. Heikki and I popped over to her house to see how her extended family is doing. There's her son, 10 year old Joona, her friend Anna-Kaisa (a wonderful, retired midwife/nurse who has a fantastic sense of humor), and her niece Jenni (a pretty, artistic, young student). Anna-Kaisa and Jenni are both staying here for a year.

Seija has just bought a car, but it broke down last night. Jenni decided to walk down a couple of km to the Hout Bay shops this morning, as she had no car. She was startled by a snake on the way. It was some kind of an adder. The adder was startled as much as Jenni, and moved out of the way as quickly as it could. When Jenni returned home, there was a wee snake in the kitchen. She caught the snake in a jar and showed us. We've got no idea of what it was. We should have taken a photo and asked a friend, or tried to identify it from our book of Southern African snakes.
