Yet another rain, yet another leak in the roof.
In the current version of our house, we have the upstairs area sealed off. We have the downstairs area full of our stuff and waiting to be worked on. The middle floor is our living quarters.
We have three bedrooms, a sitting room, two dining rooms, a kitchen, two bathrooms and two separate toilets.
My parents sleep in the master bedroom and Heikki's mum sleeps in Matias's room. Heikki and I sleep on the dining room floor.
Heikki woke me up at around 3 this morning. The roof was leaking and Heikki was getting wet. I suggested we'd get the tall ladder and try and fix the problem on the roof. Heikki carried the ladder to the back of the house and climbed up. The sheets that cover the roof are much too heavy for me to move, but Heikki grabbed one and the sheet moved. Quite a lot of water came down and the sheet was now in a better position.
It was dark, it was raining, and we were tired. Pulling the slippery plastic sheets, Heikki lost his grip and balance and fell three meters down on to the tiled courtyard floor. He landed on his feet and cursed loudly.
Heikki broke something in his left foot and hardly managed to limp inside. I got him a mattress, a frozen pea bag, a doctor (i.e. woke my father up). and some pain killers. There was no need for an immediate hospital trip. Heikki and I tried to get some sleep after that, but the sound of drips, drops and continuing rain stopped me from falling asleep. Even the thought of this could be much, much worse, didn't make me feel any calmer.
I took Heikki to the doctor and Medi-Clinic in the morning. The X-rays revealed that the bones were not broken. His heel has just been crushed badly in the fall. Heikki will walk with crutches for a while.
