We had a brilliand Saturday without a single minute spent on work-related activities. That is a rare event.
Tapio and Liv-Marie, with their guest Magne, wanted to see the whales that have come near the shores of False Bay. Tapio was phoning me about the best place to see them. In the end, we decided to go and have a look ourselves. Matias was not with us last time we went, so we felt it was important for him to be with on this trip. He had stayed the night at Harrison's. I went to pick him up and convinced Harrison to come with us, too.
We drove to Boyes Drive above Muizenberg and there the whaes were: four mothers with their babies right next to them gently rolling in the waves quite close to the shore. When Tapio and his gang arrived, we followed the whales a little bit along the coast. When the boys lost interest, they clambered up the mountain side. I heard comments like "This is weathered sand stone." They had just had a class field trip on Friday to study local rock formations.
We had lunch in Kalk Bay in a nice restaurant we had visited with Ervo at the end of last year. It turned out that the kitchen had been completely destroyed by fire three month earlier and that they had just reopened. The place was empty because no-one knew it was open again. That was good because they had trouble serving the ten of us as it were. Wrong orders were brough to the table, mozzarella salad had no mozzarella in it and chicken kebbas were burnt outside and completely raw inside. We better find another luch place in that area for next time.
Tapio had not met our Finnish friends,n Teppo and his family, in Hout Bay. We phoned Teppo up and drove in there to say hello. Seija travels a lot, so she had asked an old friend to be her 'home spirit', to look after the house while she travels. Anna-Kaisa had arrived from Finland the night before. Seija was informed of the plans to meet up at Teppo's, and she arrived there with Anna-Kaisa and Joona.
Minna had taken Milja and Dan home earlier but came back with other kids. All together there were six kids roughly the same age. In no time, they were running around the big garden and playing ball. Most of the adults joined in, too, to pass a volleyball from one person to another. India had her own ball game with Magne and was screaming with delight.
The evening went on till past 10'clock while we ate, adults chatted and kids played. It was really great to see them enjoy themselves so throughly. India was so occupied that she hardly came to see us adults at all. After all that activity, the kids are still asleep although it is nearly nine in the morning.
