Androcles and the Lion

Grades 4, 5 and 6 are doing a musical at Matias's school. Last night was the opening night. We all went to see Matias and his mates perform. I had a job too, as I'd offered to do the face painting for the lion.

The teachers and kids had done a great job in the few weeks they'd had set aside for putting up the play. The props were almost non-existent, but the kids and the settings were wonderful. There were several solo performances. Some of the singers were so sweet their songs gave me goose bumps.

The school used to be a monastery in the olden days. Most of the play was performed in the "Little theatre" which used to be a chapel. For the last scene the audience climbed to the second floor and looked down at one of the courtyards, where the little actors performed a Coliseum scene. Joona and his friends acted some impressive Gladiator fights for us, and Matias did a great job in his role as Crassus, Caesar's majordomo.
