Letters and paperwork

A big thank-you to Hannele at the University, who dropped everything she was working on and made me copies of my degree and a list of all my studies. And a huge thank-you to my parents, who drove all the way to the University to get the papers, and then to the centre of Helsinki to post them. The papers are likely to arrive here at the beginning of the week, and the saga of my work-permit can then continue.

The post isn't always that reliable. During the past five months our letterbox has been the destination of letters with various addresses. All of these addresses have been within a walking distance from here. Our neighbors have told us they sometimes get our mail. Other things never arrive. We're still awaiting a package sent to us in January, and Heikki's tax papers have never arrived, either. Naturally, we don't know how much has gone missing, and I'm sure there's a lot more missing we just don't know about.

We sent a thick letter (with all kinds of important documents and other paperwork) to the magistrates in Helsinki on the 16th. The post office told us the letter should reach the destination within approximately 8 days. We registered the letter, just in case. It still hasn't arrived 14 days later. The deadline of us handing the paperwork in is at the end of tomorrow. I really don't believe another 24 hours will do us any good.
