Tuesday - New York

After arriving at JFK airport at 6:30 on Tuesday morning, we took a shuttle to our hotel, ate a breakfast at the adjacent police cafeteria and started searching for a pram for India. It's easier to get around when we don't need to demand her to walk for long stretches, or don't need to carry her.

We shared the shuttle with a Scottish girl going to work in a summer camp upstate, and a South African Family on holiday. They had been in Europe before and this was their first time in US. They started questioning the driver about sights and ended up agreeing with him about death penalty.

Finding a place that sold prams, strollers in American, was not easy. Times Square has a big Toys R' Us but it did not have anything like that. We walked down Broadway and in the end took a taxi to a shop around Union Square. Even there, finding a good one was hard. We bought a cheap one that had big wheels and was light to steer. After paying, we got the stroller delivered, but it wasn't the one we'd paid for. The staff was reluctant to go back to the storage and search again. The second stroller was not the right one either, but it was a good one and the same make we had paid for, so Matias assembled it for us. In all this we were assisted by a genial Malian security man.

Right next door was a big Barnes&Noble book store. The lack of good book stores is one of the downsides of Cape Town.

We took a taxi back to the hotel, got into bed well before 6 PM and slept around the clock.
