Today was the Cape Argus cycle race, where 35 thousand contestants ride a 109 km race around the Cape Peninsula. It's the world's largest individually timed cycle race. For the majority of people this means a good day out watching the race, as well as difficulties moving around in a car - many of the roads are blocked for most of the day.
Milja and Dan had planned on watching the race with Hattie and Charlotte, whose dads were competing. The rest of us went down to the City Bowl, to Sheylen's 4th birthday party at the Finnish consulate. We planned on staying there most of the day: we could leave Hout Bay but could not return because of the blocked roads.
We had no problem staying as the party was wonderful. It was a hot day, 30+. Jesse had organised a water slide for the kids, and a fabulous breakfast for all of us. We sat chatting by the pool watching over the kids. We had a fantastic view over the whole of Cape Town.
