India went shopping with Milja and Dan this afternoon. They got her two pairs of princess shoes. Her friend Georgina had a nice pair of shoes, so India wanted similar ones. It felt odd not to have her around.
While Milja, India and Dan went off on their shopping spree, Heikki, Matias and I organised the house for the evening. We'd invited some colleagues over: Michael, who commutes here from London from time to time, his PhD student, his postdoc & his wife, Heikki's programmer & her husband, Seija and Joona.
The weather was nice, not too hot and not too cold. It was max 36 yesterday, but today was a pleasant 20+. We did a braai and sat outside by the pool. Matias and Joona swam and went in the sauna. India played with Seija for most of the evening, and with a polar bear one of the guests had given her. India and Seija were inseparable, like they often are.
Matias was invited to Joona's for the night. As we walked Seija, Joona and Matias to the car, India announced that she was going, too. There was no scope for negotiations. She'd decided to go and that was that. She didn't cry or demand or anything like that. She was going, as simple as that.
Seija said she was happy to take India with her, so I went back in the house to get her bottle and a change of clothes. India sat in the car next to Joona and Matias, and off she went.
Heikki and I are not accustomed to being without the kids. The kids are away during the day as we need to work and they need to be with friends, but we don't tend to do anything in the evenings without the children. This feels really strange. I'd rather she was here with us, but then again, I think she's enjoying herself at Seija's house. Maybe it's good that she has some time for herself :)
