We haven’t been in a sauna since we were in Finland in October. As Finns, we’re used to bathing in a sauna weekly, if not more often. We did go for months at a time in England without a sauna, but never this long.
It was a wonderful feeling to sit in a sauna today. You always feel calm and relaxed.
Today’s experience was, however, a bit different from the usual sauna experiences. The sauna wasn’t actually on.
We were visiting our new friends in Kommetjie (a village south of Hout Bay, near the place where the camels are). We’d met them at our other friends’ farewell party the other week. Paul and Stephne have a sauna in their garden, and India was desperate to go in. She likes saunas, and it didn’t bother her at all that it wasn’t on.
India didn’t want to sit in the sauna by herself, so Matias and David (Paul’s and Stephne’s son), Heikki and I took turns sitting in there with her.
