Heikki and I went to the council offices today to pay a hefty fine for the unauthorised work the builders (the biggest thatching company around) did on our house. We might now finally get the permit for re-doing our roof.
The thatchers were responsible for getting the permit for us before the work started, but it seems they could not have cared less. It was due to the sheer determination of Charlene, a wonderful lady we hired to do plans for the rest of the renovations in the house, that we will finally get the permit.
We also have another fine to pay. It's for the cars. We were supposed to be sent an invoice to pay for a disc to display on the windows. We didn't get the bills, so we didn't realise we should pay. Milja got a ticket when she was out with my car at the weekend. Heikki will go and sort out the discs tomorrow morning. (We are also frequently sent speeding tickets by post, but that's another story altogether...)
