"Finland, zero points. Finland, zero poäng"

Finland did it - something that we thought would never happen. Finland went through to the finals in the Eurovision Song Contest. Then Finland did it again - we actually got some points. And not only from the Norwegians.

Heikki looks at me and says in a very honest and non-judgemental way, "Who cares?" Well, I do. And many others do, too. When we were kids there weren't any music videos around. So we watched the Eurovision song contest every year. It was a big deal.

We, the kids, were crushed year after year. The media went on about how Finnish doesn't sound good when it's sung. People kept saying we would get points if we could only just sing the songs in English. But that wasn't an option. The countries needed to sing in the official language.

But then we grew up. They changed the rules, and we could all sing in English. That made no difference, and "Finland, zero points, Finland, zero poäng" continued.

Let's face it. The finnish songs were nothing more than a pile of crap. So we deserved the zero points, with the exception of the semi-annual one point from Norway. I actually grew up to like the Norwegians because of their "one point goes to Finland", but that's another story.

Now I missed the Eurovision song contest for the first time in years. But well done to Lordi for finally getting us some points! The 10-year old kid in me would like to say Tanks from the bottom of her heart :)
