Car trouble no. 1

Heikki's car did the occasional cough when driven at around 90 km/h. It was as if the automatic transmission had a problem choosing the gear and then, for a bit, didn't know what to do. Once, the gears disappeared altogehter and were recognized by the rest of the car only after the car was started again.

Heikki had told the garage about this problem when the car was last serviced, but the guys said they couldn't see the problem.

The problem seemed to escalate during our last days in Namibia. The car was fine when we drove with the cruise controll (which was most of the time) but I lost all the gears when we were going to the dunes.

When we came back to Cape Town, Heikki had an appointment to have some part changed in the car. He nearly didn't make the trip to the garage, as he kept loosing the gears.

In the end, the problem was sorted by changing some kind of an oil-lid. Apparently, the problem is a known maufacturing problem, but nothing is done to the cars before the problems appear.
