There was a story in the local papers about whales in Hout Bay, so we drove down to the beach to see if they were still there.
We went to the viewpoint on the side of the mountain but couldn't see anything, and were giving up. Then, suddenly, we spotted them right below us, close to the shore. They seemed to be just below the surface but the sea wasn't calm so we couldn't see what was going on. We could see their backs rise above the sea level every so often, and their tails.
We've seen lots of whales while living here, but never in Hout Bay before. It was nice to see the wonderful (exotic) animals in our own town.
