The Nutcracker

Santa brought us four sets of tickets to see performing arts. The first tickets were for The Nutcracker ballet at the Artscape Theatre. We went to see the show yesterday.

It's wonderful to go and watch ballet with India as she is drawn completely into the show. This time she dressed up in a lovely pink ballet outfit Tamara got her as a present.

India knows the story of the Nutcracker from a DVD she has, and so she gave us a little introduction to the story as we drove to the theatre.

I (or Santa in this case) get tickets close to the stage so India can see the dancers as close as possible. She pays close attention to details such as facial expressions, shoes, costume decorations, hair, feet and fingers.

We didn't have time to sit down for long before the show started. I was still reading her the first Act's story when the music started and lights began to dim. I was asked to shush and let her be engrossed in the ballet.

When she watches ballet, she lets out oooohh and aaaahh sounds while fluttering her eyelashes in admiration. At intervals, and after the show, she tries out moves that have impressed her. She also demonstrates moves that are difficult, Look, much too hard for me, see?

The next set of Santa's tickets are for a musical on Wednesday. We'll then go and see Shakespeare in an open air theatre on Monday, and finally Disney's Beauty and the Beast in February.
