Adults often ask children a seemingly silly question when they have a birthday: "So how does it feel now that you're older?" One day or night should make no difference, but sometimes it does. In India's case it was the difference between being little and being big.
India is the youngest in the class. Half of the children in the class turned either 4 or 5 in November, with the rest of the birthdays scattered between the other months of the year. India felt young as the other children had their birthdays.
According to the teachers, India is a kind child who has a great sense of humour. She loves being at school, but she can take months to open up in class, depending on the teacher. Even though she often suggested to the teacher that they would stay on at school and spend the night there, she didn't want me to leave her there in the mornings. She clung to me and cried several times a week. But that all changed when she turned 4. Instead of being walked to class she now wants to walk by herself. She waves 'bye' in the car park and walks there all by herself.
